“We felt so lucky to have this experience”

Jane, I can’t express to you what a wonderful time we had today. It truly will be remembered as one of the highlight of our trip and we will never forget spending the time with you. We felt so lucky to have this experience and we know it was even better this way than the prior plan we had to do a class at the big kitchen. I will not hesitate to recommend you to anyone I know who is coming into the area. We can’t wait to recreate what we ate today. Thank you again for everything!!

“You did an amazing job in knowing what we were seeking to see in our short time in St. Remy”

We had such a fun day exploring a taste of Provence with you. We loved the people, food, culture. We hope to come back again soon. We wish you continued success and I gave a glowing review to the Archers about your services! You were a tremendous help.

“The Complete Provençal Experience!!!”

1benjaminWhat an unbeatable way to see the best of Provence, all in one day! We engaged Jane who picked us up at the hotel at 930am followed by a day of incredible sightseeing, eating and drinking. We even had some time left for a little museum visit and hiking 🙂 We first bought food for a picnic and then started the adventure covering the most beautiful villages in the area followed by carriere lumiere (an art and light projection exhibit in an old quarry), and at noon a picnic at a lovely spot near St Remy. After an unforgettable lunch, we visited the famed Van Gogh’s assylum where he had created his most memorable pieces. We saw the garden in the hospital where they continued to grow lavender, poppies and irises. Then it was off to the local chocolatier, as well as olive oil and biscuit shops – all locally made – we even sat at a square where a band played and we sipped iced tea on the hot sunny afternoon. After a leisurely afternoon walking about town, we ended the day with a hike up the hill at the Pont du Gard which had simply the most amazing view of the iconic Roman structure. At the end of the tour Jane drove us back safely to the hotel, happy and contented – she even gave us fantastic dinner recommendations – all excellent choices. What an experience – we won’t soon forget Provence, thanks to Jane!!!

“Wonderful chauffered private tour of Provence”

1matthewMy wife and I spent 2 days with Jane for our tour of the local villages around St. Remy. We were surprised that Jane is originally American so she spoke perfect English. We had our own private tour just the 2 of us and Jane chauffeured us around the countryside. Apparently local markets are somewhat common in the area as there is always one somewhere. Checking on the local markets with the spices and crafts was a treat. We ended up buying lots of Herbs d’Provence and Lavender pillows as souvenirs. We enjoyed Jane’s company and treated her to lunch at a local restaurant.

The next day, we met Jane again for our first cooking class. She took us to another local market in Arles where we picked up some food for the class. The chateau where the cooking class was held was beautiful. The class was simple enough to introduce us to some local dishes. It’s not too much of a hands on cooking class, and is more for the junior cook than somebody looking to master French cuisine, but we enjoyed it. We were introduced to a local dish, a farci de legume. We made it back home with local ingredients for our friends for dinner and they were impressed.

“The peace of the day is only broken by the happy sound of cicadas”

1Shasa bWe engaged “J” on the understanding that we especially wanted to see her town. In spring, the landscape surrounding Eygalieres is pink with the ephemeral blossoms of almond, peach and apricot trees. Unspoilt, the village stands on a crest merging with the orchards. A defence fortification at first, the castle and church were surrounded by large patrician houses in the 16th and 17th-centuries.
Today it must be the most beautiful village of the Alpilles mountains. Pleasant and mellow, it overlooks olive groves, domains and vineyards in this sweet-smelling countryside where the peace of the day is only broken by the happy sound of the cicadas. just outside the village the chapel of saint-Sixte is flanked by cypress trees, as if created by the brush strokes of Van Gogh

“A great day with Jane!”

1sarahA day with Jane was a highlight in our 10 day stay in Le Paradou. (This is saying a lot because this whole area is rich with beauty and amazing sites!). Before we could get going with Jane, she came to our house and helped us sort out some issues with our housekeeper. She also helped us figure out how to get more Euros (we didn’t come prepared because we thought we could change money easily). Anyway, after getting us squared away, we were off for a great day. She was really amazing with our four children and kept them engaged throughout the day. We loved walking through the local market and learning about the market food. We bought a number of things and she was happy to help us navigate this since none of speak any French. She took us to what would be one of our favorite meals for lunch. It was fun to hear about her experience raising kids in France and was more than happy to answer questions from a curious mom. She took us to an amazing chocolate shop which we would return to many times throughout our 10-day trip. Despite having non-museum loving children, we did go to the Saint-Paul Asylum where Van Gogh was a patient and had an amazing time. All in all, Jane was great for our family and a real highlight of our trip. If we go back to the south of France, Jane will be our first phone call! PS. She even delivered our olives and tapenade to our house that we had forgotten in her car—what a good sport!

“First rate guide”

1keithWe booked Jane at very short notice but she managed to prepare and take us on a tour on the same day we called her. She showed us Roman Arles, Van Gogh’s St Remy and the picturesque Le Baux. The highlights included a Roman arena, theatre and city foundations and the sanitarium where Van Gogh stayed.
Jane knows her facts and is easygoing with an obvious love of the area.

We’d highly recommend her.

“Great for my Kids”

1carrie-sJane picked us up at our hotel and took us from Avignon, to Pont du Gard and on to the sights in Arles– she was fantastic with my three boys, ages 7-13! She kept them engaged with fun history facts and exciting stories. Although we wanted to practice speaking our French with Jane (which she was happy to do as well), it was also a relief to have an English speaking guide. She gave us plenty of great ideas to help us do Arles on our own on our final day. With Jane’s tour, we did not need to rent a car, navigate French roads and prioritize all of the things to see– she did all of that work for us and we were able to enjoy the sights without worry.

“Wonderful experience in Provence”

1nityWe were on our honeymoon and it was our best decision to use a private tour. Jane and Sharon were really professional and had best knowledge of Provence. On our first day, Sharon took us to Les Beux de Provence and St Remy. Since it’s a private tour we can manage our own time. We also saved a lot of time by not having to find a parking lot. She dropped us where we wanted. If we drive our own car we must have at least two hours here.

On our second day, Jane took us to Luberon villages. Along the way she explained useful info about Provence which was really interesting. Jane is really nice and funny. We went to Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lacoste. These villages are magnificent. Jane managed to have us having lunch at Le Fournil which serves fresh and good french food. I must say that this private tour made me appreciate Provence more in the time given. You get to travel with good guide, good people, having good food, seeing all the bests and worries free!

“Terrific Guide in Provence”

We had 2 wonderful days with Jane Satow from Provence Cultural Tours. She is the perfect guide – well immersed in local culture, a good story teller, knowledgeable about everything from food to wine to architecture to history and able to share just the right amount of information. We were a multi-generational group ranging in age from 3 to 70 and she hit the right notes for every one of us, from delighting the 3 year with a visit to a goat farm (while the adults learned about artisinal cheese making) to amazing the adults with a tour of wineries and engaging all of us with a picnic at the Pont du Gard. I highly recommend booking excursions with Jane.
